Terms of Use

Version 1.0
1. About these terms
Automeal is operated by Sacristan Ltd, registered in England and Wales.
These terms are an agreement between you and Sacristan Ltd, which operates Automeal ("we", "us").
They apply when you use automeal.ai, the Automeal web app or the waitlist. By creating an account you agree to them. Please also read our Privacy Policy and Health, nutrition and AI disclaimer; they form part of these terms.
2. Who can use Automeal
- You must be 18 or over and live in the UK. Automeal is designed for UK supermarkets, food data and law.
- You're using Automeal for yourself, not for a business.
- Automeal is not suitable for planning food for a medical condition, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, if you have or have had an eating disorder, or for managing a severe allergy without checking labels. See section 5.
3. What Automeal does
Automeal helps you keep track of your pantry, suggests recipes from what you have, estimates daily calorie and macro targets, scans photos of your fridge to list ingredients, answers food questions through an AI assistant ("Ask"), and builds shopping lists with links to supermarket websites.
Automeal is currently a free private beta. Features may change, be limited, or stop. We'll try to give notice of big changes.
4. Your account
- Sign in with your email and a one-time code. Keep access to your email secure; anyone who can read it can sign in.
- Give accurate details. Your targets are only as good as the details you enter.
- You can delete your account at any time in Settings. We'll delete your data as set out in the Privacy Policy.
5. Health, nutrition, allergens and AI: important
- Automeal gives general information about food and nutrition. It is not medical, dietetic or allergy advice, and it isn't a medical device. Speak to your GP, a registered dietitian or a pharmacist before changing your diet, especially if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, have a medical condition, take medication, or have a history of disordered eating.
- Targets are estimates. They're based on a standard formula and your answers, with safety limits. Real needs vary.
- Nutrition values are estimates from public food databases (for example UK CoFID, USDA FoodData Central, Open Food Facts) and may be incomplete or out of date.
- Allergens: we filter and flag recipes using the allergens you tell us about and the data we have, but we can't guarantee any recipe, product or ingredient is free from an allergen. Products and recipes change, and data can be wrong. Always read the label of everything you buy and cook. In an emergency, call 999.
- AI: photo scanning and Ask use artificial intelligence and can make mistakes: they can miss items, misidentify them, or give answers that are wrong or incomplete. Check the results before you rely on them. Don't use Ask for medical questions or emergencies.
6. Supermarket links
Shopping list links open a product search on a supermarket's website (for example Tesco, Sainsbury's, Ocado, Asda, Waitrose, Morrisons or Amazon Fresh). We're not affiliated with these retailers and we don't sell food. Your purchase is with the retailer, on its terms, prices and availability. Supermarket names and logos are trademarks of their owners.
We don't currently earn from any links.
7. Using Automeal fairly
You agree not to: break the law using Automeal; try to access other people's data or our systems without permission; overload, scrape, reverse-engineer or copy the service or its recipe and food data in bulk; upload photos of other people, unlawful content or malware; or use Automeal to build a competing product.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules, putting people or the service at risk. Where reasonable, we'll tell you first and explain why.
8. Your content
You keep ownership of what you add (pantry items, photos, messages). You give us permission to use it only to run Automeal for you, as described in the Privacy Policy. We don't use your photos or messages to train AI models.
9. Our content and data sources
Automeal, its design, recipes and code belong to Sacristan Ltd or its licensors. You may use them for your own personal, non-commercial cooking.
Food data includes:
- McCance and Widdowson's Composition of Foods Integrated Dataset (CoFID), contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
- USDA FoodData Central, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service (public domain).
- Open Food Facts, available under the Open Database License (ODbL). Product data: © Open Food Facts contributors.
- Ingredient images: Microsoft Fluent Emoji, MIT licence.
10. Our responsibility to you
- We'll provide Automeal with reasonable care and skill. If you're a consumer, you have legal rights in relation to digital content and services that are faulty or not as described (Consumer Rights Act 2015). Nothing in these terms affects those rights.
- We don't exclude or limit liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to exclude.
- Automeal is for personal use. We're not responsible for business losses (lost profits, business interruption).
- We're responsible for losses you suffer that are a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care. We're not responsible for losses that weren't foreseeable, or that result from relying on general information when the terms told you to check (for example not reading a product label for allergens), or from a retailer's website or products.
- While Automeal is free, and as far as the law allows, our total liability to you for any other loss is limited to £100.
11. Availability and changes
We don't promise Automeal will always be available or error-free, especially during the beta. We may change or withdraw features. If we stop offering Automeal, we'll give you reasonable notice and a way to download your data.
We may update these terms. We'll give you at least 30 days' notice of significant changes by email or in the app. If you don't agree, you can delete your account before they take effect.
12. Ending your use
You can stop using Automeal and delete your account at any time. We may end these terms if you seriously or repeatedly break them, or if we close the service (with notice under section 11).
13. Paid plans
Paid plans aren't available yet.
14. Complaints and disputes
Contact us first via our contact page; we'll try to put things right. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales, or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in your local courts.
15. General
If a court finds part of these terms invalid, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later. Only you and we have rights under these terms. We may transfer our rights to another organisation if Automeal is sold; we'll tell you, and this won't reduce your rights.
